Maddie & Lucky the Labrador
Lucky was an over excited working Labrador. He often had nowhere to put his energy so it would come out in frustration, usually barking and lunging at other dogs.
Lucky did a 3 week day train.
The key to unlocking Lucky was finding his thing, he liked a ball, he would do tug, but he loved frisbee! Building learning games around his frisbee ensured success. It helped him understand how to contain and regulate his own excitement and how to channel that excitement into other behaviours!
We taught Maddie how to communicate with him and how to teach him new behaviours so she could continue his progression! We were quickly able to channel his enthusiasm into mutually fun and beneficial behaviours.
Now Lucky has unlimited freedom and enjoys walks around other dogs where he is able to regulate himself!
Maddies testimonial below:
Wow, where to start. From my first phone call with Brad to the very end of Lucky’s 3 week day train, I have been nothing but astounded with Brad’s personability, professionalism and knowledge.
I got my 2y.o Labrador Lucky ‘part-trained’ from a gundog trainer… only to bring him home and find that all of his training only seemed to have been effective on the land he had previously lived on. I therefore found myself with an excitably leash reactive dog with no recall… which was not what I had envisioned or expected.
We originally started 1-2-1s with a different trainer, but things just weren't progressing. We just repeated the same things and, as Brad helped me to recognise later, I had just been distracting Lucky and not helping him with the issue. Then GT dog training appeared. I contacted Brad after seeing him out and about training GT pup, which left an instant impression!
I opted for the 3 week day train package with my top focuses being; recall, engagement/social neutrality and loose lead walking. Lucky and I now enjoy play sessions, which don’t involve him running rings around me, but instead focusing on me and coming into position by my heel awaiting release. We get to enjoy leaded walks together without him pulling to every tree or sniff he desires and instead him walking nicely and being given the ‘ok’ to explore chosen areas when appropriate/earned. He lies down and relaxes when we're not going anywhere (even the vet!). Best of all, he has come on leaps and bounds in off lead freedom and I have never been so overjoyed to see him be a dog whilst safe in the knowledge he will come back when needed.
I of course continue to solidify and build on Lucky's training, thanks to the included 1-2-1s within the day train package giving me the skills/knowledge needed to do so. Lucky absolutely loved working with Brad, he would leap into the van every morning and always came back a happy boy. I know he will be happy to keep seeing him in the future for 1-2-1 sessions.
I cannot recommend GT dog training enough. Something else that sets it apart from others is the exposure dogs receive to new experiences and environments, training in lots of different places so that they learn that behaviour is expected in any area. Brad has a wealth of knowledge and can back up every little detail of his training. He communicated with me throughout about Lucky’s progress, including little blips here and there. Brad adapts to the dog, it’s not a one way fits all, he finds the best way/technique for the dog in front of him. I could go on, he is an outstanding trainer. Thank you!
